3 ways to PAMPER, POLISH & DETOX {+ DIY scrub & bath salt recipe}

What if I told you, you could pamper, polish and detox your bod all at once while enjoying a spa treatment at home?  I know.  It sounds too good to be true because ‘a detox’ is usually related to food and restriction (bleh), and definitely not about polishing and pampering yourself.   Well not today mama’s, because today is all about YOU!  So here’s one way to pamper and detox your body simultaneously while enjoying EVERY-RELAXING-MINUTE.

Do you know what is our largest organ is?  Our SKIN!  So when it comes to detoxing we don’t just eliminate through the obvious channels, we also eliminate toxins through our skin.  Our bodies take on toxins from our environment and food on a daily basis, so here are a few of my rituals that not only help you to detox but leave your skin as soft as a baby’s bottom!

I learned about dry brushing from one of my favorite wellness warriors, Kris Carr and I haven’t put down my dry brush since!  When you dry brush your skin you:

  • Stimulate your immune system and increases circulation
  • Loosen dead skin cells, enhance cell renewal and blood flow
  • Help your lymphatic system remove toxins more readily
  • Reduce cellulite, puffiness and improve muscle tone
  • Have soft as a baby’s bottom beautiful, touchable skin

I use a hard natural bristle brush I got at my natural food store, but you can also use the synthetic kits you can pick up at Target or your local pharmacy as those are a bit softer if you’re new to this dry brushing thing.  I dry brush before I hop in the shower.

DIRECTIONS: Start at your feet and work your way up your front/back of legs and bum to your chest staying clear of your sensitive areas.  You can either brush/scrub in circular motions or brush in short, quick upward movements if this is easier. Finish by reaching over and brushing your back and arms in an over-all motion brushing towards your heart (not away).

#2: BODY SCRUB {+ a DIY recipe}

I’ve always loved making my own body products because they’re healthy, quick and….cheap!  Check out my Coconut Oil Body Butter here.

This body scrub is super simple to whip up and you can keep it in your shower or bath to have a quick SPA SCRUB treatment ready and waiting!

1 cup of sugar (Your choice: white, brown, ultra-fine)

1/2 cup coconut oil

10 drops of your favorite essential oil (I use Lavendar)

Whip up in your mixer until well combined and you’re done!  Scoop out into a container and store in your bath or medicine cabinet.

I put a towel down in the shower to stand on so I won’t slip.  Apply the body scrub to your face, lips and all over your body on dry skin before turning on the shower.  Now turn on the water and finish showering while standing on the now wet towel.  The towel will keep you from slipping.  When you’re done showering simply wring out the towel and clean the bottom of the shower so you don’t slip the next time you get in.

Note: If you prefer to scrub before getting in a bath just stand on a towel outside the tub while your water is running and scrub away.

#3: DETOX BATH {+ a DIY recipe}

EPSOM SALT is actually a naturally occurring pure compound of magnesium and sulfate.  Because many of us are deficient in magnesium these days due to our environmental and food/water supply, the best way to get magnesium into our system is through our skin.  The BAKING SODA helps neutralize the chlorine in the water (if you don’t have a filter) and also helps increase magnesium absorption.  Here’s just a few of the health benefits of this Detox bath:

  • Improves circulation.
  • Flushes toxins and heavy metals from the body.
  • Relieves stress. Magnesium is a natural stress reliever, for the body.
  • Reduces inflammation to relieve pain and muscle cramps.
  • Improved absorption of nutrients.

DIY DETOX BATH RECIPE {enough for one relaxing bath}

2 cups Epsom Salts

1/2 cup Baking Soda (I buy the huge bag at Costco)

10 drops Lavender oil (or your favorite essential oil)

DIRECTIONS: Mix together or pour directly into the tub.  Your bath water should be as hot as you can stand it.  Fill the tub enough to soak your entire body.  Soak for a full 20 minutes.  For even better results dry brush your skin before you soak.

So go PAMPER YOURSELF, and give one or all of these multi-tasking treatments a try!  I promise, once you do these detox babies will be a part of your ongoing beauty repertoire .
